Minnesota Vikings and a 63-touchdown quarterback are reportedly linked.
For more than a month, the Minnesota Vikings have been threatening to move up in the NFL Draft to choose a quarterback.
The Vikings want to choose one of the best quarterback prospects in this year’s draft class by moving up higher on the board after obtaining the No. 23 overall choice in a trade with the Houston Texans.
In the NFL Draft, may the Minnesota Vikings trade up with the Chargers?
Los Angeles might be tempted to add at least two first-round picks in this year’s class to bolster the talent on the roster, especially on offense, as the Chargers attempt to rebuild the roster on the fly around head coach Jim Harbaugh and franchise quarterback Justin Herbert.
The Vikings rise all the way to selection No. 5, surpassing the quarterback-hungry New York Giants and outbidding the Las Vegas Raiders to take North Carolina’s Drake Maye. This is according to Pete Prisco’s most recent NFL Mock Draft Projection.
For CBS Sports, Prisco writes, “They make the move to go up and get their guy in Drake Maye.” “While the Chargers receive multiple first-round picks as they retool under Jim Harbaugh.”
Report on Drake Maye Scouting
According to Prisco’s estimate, the Vikings will select Maye after Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and J.J. McCarthy go undrafted with the first four picks.
After completing 64.9 percent of his throws for 8,018 yards with 63 touchdowns against 16 interceptions over the course of three seasons at Chapel Hill, Maye is eligible to be selected in this year’s draft.
Regarding the former Tarheels quarterback, NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein writes, “He can make every throw.” He will, however, attempt throws that he shouldn’t have tried. The gunslinger mindset not only helps him win in tight windows and make splash throws that get spectators (and evaluators) excited, but it also fosters a fearlessness that may translate into interceptions.
“He needs to learn when to take some sauce off the throw to make it more catchable. He leaves too many throws on the hip or back shoulder.”
To be competitive in a division that already features Jared Goff and Jordan Love and will soon welcome Caleb Williams to the Windy City, the Vikings must make a move at quarterback. Maye provides head coach Kevin O’Connell with a developing quarterback to groom in the goal of moving up the football ladder in one of the league’s most competitive divisions.
