K.D. Johnson, a former Auburn guard, joins George Mason
K.D. Johnson, a former guard for Auburn, declared on his Instagram page on Friday that he will be attending George Mason. After seeing a decline in both his minutes played and scoring average over the previous two seasons, Johnson is now seeking more playing time and opportunities. Johnson played an average of 27.8 minutes per game and averaged 12.3 points in 34 games (31 starts) in 2021–2022.
Over the course of the following two seasons, his playing time dropped from 21.9 to 17.7 while his averages dropped to 8.9 and then 7.1. During those two years, he only made one start.
Johnson played for the Tigers for 102 games (32 starts), averaging 9.4 points per game overall. Johnson attended Georgia for his first collegiate season before moving to Auburn. In 16 games with the Bulldogs, he averaged 13.5. As he awaited the NCAA’s academic clearance, he missed the first half of the season. George Mason is situated in Fairfax, Virginia, around 200 miles northeast of Hargrave Military Academy, the high school Johnson attended.
