Jaxon Howard, a former top player for Cooper, goes to the Gophers from LSU.
FOX 9 MINNEAPOLIS – Coming home is Minnesota’s top football prospect for the class of 2022.
After spending one season at LSU, former Robbinsdale Cooper standout edge rusher Jaxon Howard made his way onto the NCAA transfer portal earlier this week. The news that Howard will be returning home to play for P.J. Fleck and the Gophers was released on Friday.
In front of his family and friends at Cooper High School in July 2022, Howard chose LSU over Miami, Michigan, and the Gophers. During his one-season stint with the Tigers, he made two tackles and one quarterback hit while playing in five games. Emmanual Karmo, a former teammate from high school, committed to the Gophers in the 2025 class after receiving scholarship offers from other universities.
Howard becomes the newest member of a defensive line that also includes Deven Eastern, Anthony Smith, Danny Striggow, Jalen Logan-Redding, and Jah Joyner. At LSU, Howard was regarded as a four-star prospect by most, and he was ranked among the top 150 players in the nation.
The Gophers’ spring practice will end in approximately one week, after which they will break before fall camp.
