After a scorching start to the season, the Yankees could trade for a star pitcher.
Because of some severe injuries, New York may use a little extra help in the bullpen.
Despite overcoming several difficult injuries thus far this season, the New York Yankees remain among the best teams in baseball.
New York has an outstanding 16-8 record and is currently leading the American League East. Although the Yankees have performed admirably thus far this season, they may yet improve. Despite some significant injuries, including to relievers Jonathan Loáisiga, Thomas Kahnle, and Lou Trivino, New York has performed admirably.
Although the Yankees’ bullpen has performed admirably thus far this season, it wouldn’t be surprising if the team eventually completed a trade to acquire a reliever. Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report has mentioned Miami Marlins flamethrower Tanner Scott as a potential candidate.
“Scott makes sense for a variety of contending teams, such as the Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers, and New York Yankees,” Kelly stated. “You can add the Dodgers—who are about as all-in as any team has ever been—as a club that makes sense for Scott as a rental addition.”
With 10 outings and a 3.38 ERA so far this season, the veteran pitcher has been very effective for the Marlins. In 78 innings pitched, he had an astounding strikeout-to-walk ratio of 104 to 24, and an astounding 2.74 ERA.
Even more astounding are Scott’s advanced analytics, where he is presently in the 85th, 94th, 93rd, and 97th percentiles for fastball velocity, predicted batting average against, and average exit velocity, respectively.
He is just the kind of pitcher that New York needs to strengthen their bullpen. Scott might be the next top option on the Yankees’ list of available bullpen candidates, as they have a history of doing so.
