Baltimore Ravens Join Baltimore Orioles Leadership Baltimore Orioles general manager Mike Elias and deputy general manager Sig Mejdal paid back Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta during the NFL Draft.
The Athletic reports that on Thursday night during the first round of the NFL draft, members of the Baltimore Orioles’ executive group visited the Baltimore Ravens in their draft room.
General manager Eric DeCosta extended an invitation to Orioles general manager Mike Elias and assistant general manager Sig Mejdal to join the Ravens.
DeCosta was giving back the favor that he had received a few years prior from Elias and Mejdal. DeCosta was invited by the Orioles brass to join them in 2022, when they will have the first overall pick.
With that selection, the Orioles selected Jackson Holliday. The Orioles called up Holliday earlier this month after he spent more than a year as baseball’s top prospect.
Despite Holliday’s poor hitting performance thus far in his career (he is only batting.059), many think it will eventually catch up for Holliday.
Will DeCosta and the Ravens experience the same kind of luck with Elias and Mejdal present in the draft room?
On Thursday, Baltimore chose defensive back Nate Wiggins of Clemson with the No. 30 overall choice. Wiggins, who is only 20 years old, made 21 pass breakups and three interceptions in his three seasons as a Tiger.
After winning the AFC North Division and making it to the AFC Championship Game, where they hosted the Kansas City Chiefs before losing, the Ravens are coming off of an incredible season. The Chiefs proceeded to win the Super Bowl, their third championship in four years and their second in a row.
Starting on Friday, the Orioles will host the Oakland Athletics and then the New York Yankees in a seven-game homestand.
