Breaking: Texas Longhorns Secure Vanderbilt Transfer Commitment Presley Malik
Through the transfer portal, the Texas Longhorns have added another guard.
AUSTIN: Through the transfer portal, the Texas Longhorns are continuing to restructure their backcourt.
Malik Presley, a transfer guard from Vanderbilt, announced his commitment to the Longhorns on Instagram on Monday. Texas already has its fifth off-season portal addition.
Presley, who was born in San Marcos, Texas, a small town south of Austin, participated in 26 games as a rookie for Vanderbilt under head coach Jerry Stackhouse, making five starts. Playing 11.8 minutes per game, he averaged 2.2 points and 1.6 rebounds on 42.9 percent shooting.
On January 17, he had a season-high 11 points and four rebounds in 21 minutes against then-No. 13 Auburn in an 80-65 loss.
Under former coach Chris Beard, Texas had first considered recruiting Presley in 2022. In October of that year, he paid a formal visit to Austin and accepted offers from TCU, Texas A&M, LSU, Houston, and the Texas State Bobcats, the university of his birth.
The transfer commitments and accompanying signatures from Jordan Pope of Oregon State, Tramon Mark of Arkansas, Julian Larry and Jayson Kent of Indiana State, and others have already been added by the Longhorns. With Chendall Weaver and five-star freshman Tre Johnson in the backcourt for coach Rodney Terry, the Longhorns will already have some depth at guard thanks to Presley and the other transfers.
