Alabama Basketball Acquires Labaron, a 4-Star Point Guard Philon Philon, an in-state recruit from Mobile, Alabama, gives the 2024–25 Crimson Tide team even more guard depth.
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama: Nate Oats and his staff have added another freshman to their highly-touted recruiting class in the middle of transfer portal season, landing top-35 talent Labron Philon.
According to 247Sports’ aggregate rankings, Philon is a highly regarded 4-star point guard who is ranked No. 33 overall in the 2024 class. He is an Alabama native and an in-state product. After spending his junior year at Baker High School, he transferred to Link Academy in Missouri for his senior year.
After assistant coach Wes Flanigan left the Tigers to join Ole Miss, Philon, who had pledged to Auburn, decommitted. After that, Philon committed to Kansas and signed his letter of intent there. This week, he asked to be released from his NLI.
Coming into Tuscaloosa, Philon joins an extremely talented recruiting class that includes top-50 recruit Naas Cunningham and two McDonald’s All-Americans in 5-star recruits Derrion Reid and Aiden Sherrell.
For the upcoming campaign, Philon gives Alabama’s guard room even more depth. In addition to Latrell Wrightsell, who had previously declared his return, Pepperdine has added Chris Youngblood from South Florida, Aden Holloway from Auburn, and Houston Mallette from Pepperdine. Since the roster is still being formed and Mark Sears’ NBA Draft decision is still pending, it is uncertain what role Philon will play in his rookie campaign.
There are presently seven players joining the Crimson Tide, consisting of three transfers and four freshmen. This means there is just one unfilled roster place left. As a final offseason acquisition, Oats and his staff are still considering adding a center through the transfer portal.
