Breaking News: Another Top Experienced Star Commit To Georgia

On Monday, the 6-foot-10 center was a significant addition to the Bulldogs roster.
In the wake of Russell Tchewa’s departure, the Georgia Bulldogs have been searching for a standout center this offseason. On Monday night, the Bulldogs finally found their center of the future, ending the pursuit.

Somto Cyril, a four-star center, has committed to the Bulldogs but plans to enter the 2024 NBA Draft. The former signee from Kentucky choose the Bulldogs over Georgia Tech, Arkansas, and the Wildcats.

“On my visit to Athens, Coach White and his staff were very detailed in their approach, and it was a great feeling being in a place that had such a family environment,” Cyril said on social media in part. “I will be keeping my collegiate eligibility and, in full disclosure, entering the 2024 NBA Draft. During the month of May, I will use this opportunity to obtain much-needed feedback from NBA teams. This will provide my coaching staff access to information on me prior to the 2024–25 season, in addition to granting myself and my family access to the data.”I am thrilled to have this chance and am eager to represent the University of Georgia at work.”

The 6-foot-10, 240-pound Cyril is the second player from high school to join Georgia this offseason. He joins Mount St. Mary’s guards De’Shayne Montgomery and Dakota Leffew, Appalachian State forward Justin Abson, and five-star forward Asa Newell.

Cyril reopened his recruitment after Wildcats head coach John Calipari left for Arkansas, and now he is headed to Athens. Upon his June 2024 commitment to the Wildcats, he became the first commit from Kentucky.

According to 247Sports, Cyril is ranked as the tenth-best center prospect for the 2024 cycle. In addition, he is ranked as the 46th greatest player in the country and the fifth best in the state of Georgia.

On April 21, Cyril traveled to Georgia, and on April 25, he traveled to Georgia Tech. Even though he had a relationship with Calipari, he finally decided not to travel to Arkansas before making his choice.

Cyril, who is originally from Nigeria, played for Overtime Elite in Atlanta during his last two years of high school. His hand injury kept him out of action for a good chunk of his final year. In 2023–24, he averaged 9.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.3 blocks per game, according to Overtime Elite’s online stats.
