According to a rumor, a former wide receiver for Florida State is moving to the South Carolina Gamecocks. Coach Shane Beamer and the South Carolina football team have once again strengthened their wide receiver room via the transfer portal.
Vandrevius Jacobs, a wide receiver transfer from Florida State, told Gamecock Central on Tuesday that he had committed to South Carolina. The Gamecocks have added a commitment for the first time since the spring transfer window started 15 days ago.
A former four-star recruit, Jacobs had 60 receiving yards and a touchdown in his redshirt year at FSU. He will be eligible for four more years at USC, beginning this fall with the 2024 season. South Carolina has now added four wideouts from the transfer portal: Jacobs, Ahmari Huggins-Bruce (Louisville), Gage Larvadain (Miami Ohio), and Jared Brown (Coastal Carolina).
This comes after the team lost seven receivers this offseason, led by Xavier Legette (NFL Draft) and Antwane “Juice Wells” (transferred to Ole Miss). Each of the four has a fairly similar build, standing between 5 and 10 and 6 feet tall and weighing about 175 pounds.
Even Mazeo Bennett (5-11, 188) and Debron Gatling (6-0, 194), the two outstanding freshmen the Gamecocks signed this summer, are about the same size. Beamer acknowledged that “in some ways, that’s a little concerning because in today’s time, you need big bodies out there on the perimeter,” but he also seemed to imply that the Gamecocks would address the lack of WR size in the transfer portal. Beamer also mentioned how much he enjoyed the group during spring ball.
