Latest NOLES News: Just In FSU Confirm To Lands Two Transfer Commitments

Breaking: Two Transfer Commitments Are Made by FSU Basketball
Leonard Hamilton and Florida State have increased the wing’s depth.

According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, transfers Bostyn Holt from South Dakota and Justin Thomas from UTSA have committed to Florida State and Leonard Hamilton. Florida State has obviously prioritized developing both of these players into above-average 3-point shooters this offseason.

Bostyn Holt

Before moving to Utah, Holt began his career at Coffeyville Community College, where he saw virtually little playing time. He only managed 2.2 points per game in 27 games over his two seasons with the Utes. Last season, after relocating to South Dakota, he started all 32 games, averaged 12.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists while shooting 39.1% from three point range on his few 3-point tries. There will be one more season of eligibility left for the 6’6″ graduate transfer. He scored thirty points against Eastern Washington last season and did a terrific job of getting to the free-throw line. With the exception of a very poor DePaul squad, South Dakota did not face any high major institutions; yet, in two different games against South Dakota State, the regular champion of the Summit Conference, Holt managed just three points.

Justin Thomas

Compared to Holt, Thomas has moved about even more. He began his career in 2020–21 at Queens University in North Carolina, transferred to Navarro College (a JUCO) in 2021–22, moved to Milwaukee in 2022–23, and finally attended UTSA in 2023–24. Although he did not play for UTSA in the previous campaign, he shot 42.9% from three point range on few tries for Milwaukee two seasons prior, averaging 7.3 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 3.0 APG, and 1.2 SPG. Against Southeastern Missouri State, the 6’7″ junior scored a career-high 19 points, going 9/11 from the free-throw line.

Considering how little they have produced at the collegiate level thus far, these are probably going to be benchwarmer pieces. Only Chandler Jackson and Taylor Bol Bowen from the previous campaign will be returning to Florida State, which also added Jerry Deng from Hampton via the transfer portal, Malique Ewin from JUCO, and Daquan Davis, AJ Swinton, and Christian Nitu from the high school ranks. With four positions available, FSU probably needs a guard who can play the 1 or 2, two wings who can play the 2 through 4, and at least one more true center. Amar’e Marshall of Albany is now visiting the college and has the potential to fill the final position.
