Transfer guard Dji Bailey Joins LSU Basketball’s 2024–25 Squad
BATON ROUGE: Dji Bailey has completed his transfer to LSU for the 2024–25 basketball season, according to a statement made by head coach Matt McMahon of the LSU men’s basketball team.
The 6-5 guard from Wilson, North Carolina, will join the Tigers as a graduate transfer after spending the last four seasons as a player for the University of Richmond. Bailey was the recipient of the Chris Daniels Award, which is given to the league’s Most Improved Player in the Atlantic 10 Conference, this past year.
In each game, Bailey averaged 10.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.7 steals. With a minimum of 200 field goals attempted, his field goal percentage of 59.4% was the highest in the Richmond program’s history for a season and led the A-10.
Coach McMahon stated, “We are thrilled to have Dji Bailey join LSU and look forward to his arrival on campus later this month.” “Dji had a fantastic season, leading Richmond to the regular-season A-10 title. His offensive efficiency was exceptional; he led the A-10 in FG% and had a 2-to-1 assist to turnover ratio.
He is a disruptive defender who led a top-35 defense in the nation in steals, finishing fourth in the A-10. This season, Dji’s leadership and experience will be greatly appreciated in our locker room.
For the Spiders in 2023–24, who won 23 games and qualified for the NIT, Bailey played in all 33 games, making 24 starts. With an average of 31.1 minutes per game, he was second on the squad. Among players with at least 300 field goal tries, his career field goal percentage of 56.4 percent (171-of-303) is the fourth-highest in program history.
On January 16, in the previous season, he made the game-winning driving layup against Duquesne with 13 seconds remaining. In February, Bailey set a career high with 22 points against LaSalle, helping Richmond win its first-ever A-10 regular season championship.
During his four years at Richmond, he made 31 starts and participated in 78 games.
Leading the team to the 2019 North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 1A state championship, he was a student at Wilson’s Greenfield School. As a senior, Bailey averaged 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists per game.
Bailey was chosen as the Wilson Times All-Area and NCISAA All-State selection for 2020.
Bailey is joined by Jordan Sears from UT Martin and Cam Carter from Kansas State who were signed through the transfer portal. Also, two high school players from the early signing period, Curtis Givens III of Montverde (Florida) Academy and Robert Miller of Pasadena (Texas) Memorial High School, are joining Bailey.
