Odell Beckham Jr. will sign a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins, according to an AP source.
Florida’s Miami Gardens (AP) — Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has agreed to a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins, a source with knowledge of the agreement told The Associated Press on Friday.
Because the contract was not yet finalized, the speaker spoke under the condition of anonymity.
The arrangement, which could be worth up to $8.25 million, was originally reported by NFL Network, the network said.
After playing for the Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore, Cleveland, and the New York Giants, who selected him with the 12th overall pick in 2014, Beckham, 31, is about to join his fifth franchise. It was with the Rams in the 2021–2022 season that he won a Super Bowl.
Beckham is joining a Dolphins group that includes Jaylen Waddle, a fast player, and Tyreek Hill, the leader in receiving yards from the previous season. Miami faced depth issues at wide out after Hill and Waddle combined for more yards (2,813) than any other wide receiver combination in the NFL in 2023.
The Ravens dismissed Beckham in March after he caught 35 passes for 565 yards and three touchdowns with Baltimore the previous season. An offer had been presented to him when he visited the Dolphins earlier in the offseason, but the two parties had not yet reached a consensus.
In March, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel stated, “Everything went great with him.” We did extend an offer to him, but business takes time—especially when it comes to someone like Odell, who has an incredible career ahead of him and still has alternatives. If we can reach a consensus, I’m more than willing to coach him, and I believe that both of us are making an effort to do so. We’ll watch and see.
In his first three seasons with the Giants, Beckham established himself as one of the most gifted receivers in the league. After being picked by New York out of LSU, he had three seasons in a row with 1,300 yards or more. In his first season, he grabbed one of the most iconic touchdowns in NFL history when he extended his body, leaped back, and reached as far as he could with one hand to pull in a 43-yard ball from Eli Manning.
After being traded to the Browns in 2019, Beckham played for them for two seasons until signing with the Rams. While playing for the Rams in Super Bowl LVI, he caught a touchdown pass, but he then suffered an ACL injury that kept him out of action for the whole 2022 campaign.
