Latest Vols News: Top Experienced Star Set Official Visit To Tennessee Volunteers Ahead Of Commitment

A four-star guard from 2024 is scheduled to visit Tennessee basketball before committing.
Even though the transfer portal is closed, Rick Barnes and Tennessee basketball are still active. In an effort to complete their transfer portal class and 2024–25 roster, Barnes and the Vols are still attempting to bring in a few targets from the gateway to Knoxville.

This year, Tennessee has secured three commitments from players via the transfer portal: forward Igor Milicic Jr. from Charlotte, transfer center Felix Okpara from Ohio State, and forward Darlinstone Dubar from Hofstra. All three players will be attending Rocky Top.

Tennessee is still accepting applications for scholarships, and in the coming days, it hopes to fill at least one more. Ben Hammond had previously committed to Rhode Island, but with the closure of the spring transfer portal deadline, he decommitted and resumed recruiting.

While 247Sports classified Hammond as a three-star prospect, 24/7 High School Sports reported on his planned trip to Rocky Top and assessed him as a four-star guard and one of the best available.

Penn State, Iowa, Butler, Virginia Tech, Providence, and the 5-foot-11 Virginia prospect have all expressed interest in him. He may decide to play collegiate basketball in his native state, therefore his most recent visit was to Virginia Tech.

If the Vols don’t bring in at least one more freshmen or via the transfer portal, Tennessee’s depth at shooting guard and point guard may become a problem. Given their current success and Hammond’s chance to get playing time early in his career, Tennessee might be a top choice.

On Monday, May 6, Hammond will pay Tennessee a visit in an attempt to win his commitment and sign the fifth player available in the 2024 recruiting class. The only other high school commitment made by the Vols is to Bishop Boswell, a four-star guard from North Carolina.
