Transfer of Akron OL Auburn gets Ronan Chambers’ commitment.
After spring practice, Auburn added yet another gateway.
This time, Auburn has strengthened the offensive line and added some depth to the offensive tackle room with another post-spring transfer portal acquisition. After visiting the Plains, Ronan Chambers, a four-year contributor at Akron, made his commitment to Auburn. Prior to signing, Chambers had committed to Tulane in April, but he held off on signing to keep his choices open. Arizona, BYU, and Auburn ultimately decided to pursue his portal recruiting.
With Percy Lewis and Izavion “TooTall” Miller expected to start at tackle and redshirt freshman Tyler Johnson and JUCO early enrollee Seth Wilfred serving as the backups during spring practice, Auburn now adds an experienced player to the mix. Chambers has one more year of eligibility when he enrolls at Auburn.
Chambers, who is listed as 6-foot-6 and 290 pounds, played for the Zips in six games in 2020, eight games (2021), five of which were starts, eleven games (2022), and all twelve games (2023). In Chambers’ debut season as a full-time starter, he started the first three games at right tackle before switching to left tackle for the remainder of the campaign.
With the addition of former USC defensive lineman Isaiah Raikes, former Indiana defensive lineman Philip Blidi, former Arkansas State pass rusher Keyron Crawford, and former Penn State wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith, Auburn has already signed four players during the spring portal window. Chambers joins Hugh Freeze and his team as the fifth transfer signing.
In order to try and improve the room, Chambers will aim to start at left tackle while Lewis moves Dillon Wade to guard. Auburn has not lost any offensive lineman to the transfer portal in any transfer window.
