J.J. Watt Teases Return to the Houston Texans Under One Condition

J.J. Watt Hints to a One-Condition NFL Comeback.
Former Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt stated in an interview with the Houston Chronicle on May 4 that he would think about going back to his old team if they “absolutely needed it.” Watt is more than happy to play again for the team he played for ten of his twelve NFL seasons, even if he plans to retire in 2022. When asked if he would return to the league, Watt said, “I’ve had 12 great years in this league and I’m very thankful to have walked away healthy and playing great.”

“I mean, I told [Texans coach] DeMeco [Ryans] last year, ‘Don’t call unless you absolutely need it, but if you ever do call, I’ll be there,’ and he knows not to call unless he absolutely needs it.” After the season, Watt, who is now a broadcaster for CBS Sports’ The NFL Today, stated that he will not be continuing to volunteer. “This is the last year I’ll tell [Ryans] that, because I’m not going to keep training the way I’ve been training,” Watt stated, “but he knows that if he ever truly does need it, I’ll be there for him.” Watt acknowledged that the Texans now have “a very good group” of players for the upcoming season, so “I don’t anticipate that happening,” he said. One of the best defensive lineman in the history of the sport is Watt.

He still maintains the record for the most sacks and forced fumbles of any player on the squad. He was chosen by the Texans in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft.
