Odell Beckham Jr. is officially signed by the Miami Dolphins, albeit opinions are divided.
It has taken a very long time. It took some time, but Odell Beckham Jr. has finally signed an official one-year contract worth up to $8.25 million with the Miami Dolphins.
When it was verified that the receiver had toured the facility in mid-March, rumors about Beckham’s arrival in Miami first started to circulate. At the NFL Annual Owners’ Meetings the next few days, head coach Mike McDaniel said they had made an offer. After that, crickets appeared.
The Beckham to Miami dream began to fade as April passed. The three-time Pro Bowl receiver is not only noticeable during games. Off the pitch, too, he is the star of the show. Soon after the draft was over, Beckham made the announcement that he would be signing a one-year contract with the Dolphins, making a comeback to the news at the perfect time.
Behind Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill, the team already had one of the top receiving rooms in the game, so having a third wideout was more of a luxury than a need. With Braxton Berrios and the two rookie pass-catchers they recently acquired, the offense might have been plenty. Given that Beckham disclosed he was offered more elsewhere, it’s possible that the pursuit made the location even more alluring.
The receiver, who recently signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens, will see a significant pay drop with a base salary of $3 million and incentives of up to $8.25 million. While some believe it was a value, others contend the Dolphins overpaid for a receiver who is past his prime.
One of the deal’s biggest supporters, Pat McAfee, said that the agreement will be advantageous to both sides. “[He] still has juice.” The coverage won’t be skewed in any way toward him. Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are giving him the chance to sort of feast by clearing some s*** out, McAfee said.T.J. Houshmandzadeh, a former NFL player and media personality, took a very different stand. Houshmandzadeh said on the SPEAK talk show that Beckham wouldn’t succeed in Miami if he couldn’t succeed in the right circumstances in Baltimore.
“I’m not sure what his potential is, but even with the Ravens last season, where Zay Flowers was the top receiver, you would have thought, ‘OK, OBJ, he can really do something.'” In Baltimore, they started the offense the previous year. They made a lot of ball throws. Mark Andrews collapses. Alright, OBJ can fill in somewhat. I anticipate that he won’t have much of an impact because he didn’t accomplish that, the former receiver stated.
Of course, McDaniel’s, who firmly thinks that Beckham’s finest days are still ahead of him, is one of the only viewpoints that really count.
