Latest Houston Texans News: Just In Houston Texans Confirm The Signing Of Another Top Experienced Star

Texans Sign CB Kamari Lassiter in Round 2.
Yesterday, Houston signed six rookies to individual contracts. Additionally, the team’s first-round pick from this year’s draft is now bound to a contract.
The second-round corner Kamari Lassiter signed his rookie contract, the Texans announced on Friday. The player from Georgia was chosen 42nd overall, which was also Houston’s first selection following the trade of No. 23 to the Vikings well in advance of the draft. Although the Texans will benefit in the near future from the 2025 money obtained in that move, Lassiter may have an immediate impact on the secondary.

The 6-0, 180-pound player was a three-year member of the Bulldogs squad that helped them win consecutive titles in 2021 and 2022. Lassister demonstrated his prowess as a run defender in the second half of the season with five tackles for loss. With 37 total stops (including 3.5 for loss) last year, that trend persisted.

Lassiter recorded a career-high eight pass deflections in the 2023 campaign in addition to his solitary interception. His low ball output in college—he only had two picks—undoubtedly contributed to his decline down the CB board. Lassiter’s lengthy speed has also drawn criticism, so it will be interesting to see how he adjusts to the professional game.

Derek Stingley Jr. is the only starting wide receiver Houston has secured. With the additions of C.J. Henderson, Jeff Okudah, and Mike Ford in free agency, the team was rather active at cornerback. Among those fresh faces, Lassiter will look to establish himself early on in the lineup with returning players Troy Pride and Desmond King. In his first season, he should at the very least be able to contribute to the secondary depth and special teams activity.

Here is a current look at the Texans’ 2024 class with just two unsigned rookies left:

Second round, Vikings No. 42: Kamari Lassiter (CB, Georgia) (signed)
Round 2, No. 59: Notre Dame’s Blake Fisher (T)

Round 4, No. 123: Cade Stover (TE, Ohio State) (signed) (from Browns through Texans)
