One of the Philadelphia Phillies’ best infield players was placed on the injured list prior to their game against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday.
Before the Philadelphia Phillies’ game against the San Francisco Giants at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday, the team announced that shortstop Trea Turner had been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left hamstring injury.
The Phillies called up Triple-A Lehigh Valley infielder Kody Clemens to replace Turner.
On April 22, Turner won the title of National League Player of the Week. However, during Friday’s victory over the Giants, he injured his hamstring when scoring from second base on a walk and passed ball.
The 30-year-old has been on fire through the opening month of the season, in contrast to last year, when he struggled over the first half of the campaign. He slashed 33 games..392/.460/.852 with two home runs, nine RBI, and ten doubles. He had ten stolen bases as well.
After winning the Player of the Week award for seven days, he batted.462 with five doubles, a home run, four RBI, a walk, and ten runs.
As an injury substitute, Clemens, the son of former Major League great Roger Clemens, has already made one appearance with the Phillies this season. On April 22, he drove in three runs and hit a home run in his lone game against Cincinnati.
With 10 home runs and 33 RBI in 107 games, the 27-year-old has a.196 batting average throughout his MLB career.
He slashed.247/.327/.419/.746 with five doubles, a triple, three home runs, and sixteen RBI in 23 games with Lehigh Valley.
Rafael Marchán is the only other position player that the Phillies have on their injured list. He hasn’t played since February due to lower back injury.
