Texas flips Jermayne Lole from Oklahoma and gets D-line assistance.
Jermayne Lole, a former Louisville defensive lineman, announced on social media on Thursday that he had switched his commitment from Oklahoma to the Longhorns, giving Texas a transfer at a critical position of need.
Entering his sixth season in collegiate football, Lole started his career in 2018 at Arizona State, where he participated in 23 games throughout his first two years. He moved to Louisville after missing the 2021 campaign due to a triceps injury. Lole had 12 appearances last year with 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks after playing in just one game in 2022. At Arizona State, he had 71 tackles (10 for loss) and 6.5 sacks in 2019, which was his best season.
In an attempt to offset the losses of first-round pick Byron Murphy II and second-round pick T’Vondre Sweat, Texas has added 6-foot-2, 305-pound Lole to its roster along with Arizona transfers Bill Norton and Tiaoalii Savea. Following the Texas spring game on April 20, head coach Steve Sarkisian expressed his continued dissatisfaction with the team’s stats, specifically pointing out the defensive line.
“I think obviously the depth on the defensive line is not where we need it to be, and so hopefully we can address that,” Sarkisian stated. “There aren’t enough bodies here. There aren’t enough large people. We must deal with it since the math is straightforward.”
Along with five-star prospect Colin Simmons, Texas acquired Trey Moore, a talented defensive end out of UTSA, earlier in the spring. Alfred Collins, a defensive tackle for the Longhorns who returned for his senior year after making 48 career appearances with six starts, is another important returnee.
