Geno VanDeMark, a transfer offensive lineman from Michigan State, commits to Alabama.
On Saturday, Alabama football added some offensive line support via the transfer site. Geno VanDeMark, a former interior offensive lineman for Michigan State, committed to the Crimson Tide for the next campaign.
At Michigan State, the 6-foot-5, 325-pound offensive lineman was coached by Alabama’s offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic. In Tuscaloosa, he will have two more years of eligibility left.
Before the spring transfer portal window opened, Kalen DeBoer, the head coach of the Crimson Tide, identified the offensive line as a need.
DeBoer remarked, “Offensive line, we’re probably a guy short.” “Just based on the numbers you usually see and our desired outcome.”
With the return of a well-known player in Kadyn Proctor, the Crimson Tide have already added a tackle commitment in the spring portal. Proctor, who started as UA’s left tackle last season after transferring to Iowa, chose to return to Tuscaloosa following a brief stay with the Hawkeyes.
James Brockermeyer’s commitment to TCU during the spring window meant the loss of one member of the interior offensive line. Brockermeyer had competition for the center position from Parker Brailsford, a Washington transfer.
Brailsford was not practicing for the majority of spring football because of an unidentified non-punishment or injury concern. DeBoer said on Wednesday that he would return to uniform in the fall.
Before participating in the Regions Tradition Celebrity Pro-Am golf tournament, DeBoer declared, “No question.”
VanDeMark brings significant experience to a very young group of positions. He might be an important depth player for the Crimson Tide after starting six games for the Spartans the previous season.
The 247Sports consensus rated the native of New Jersey as a three-star talent in the class of 2021. He was ranked No. 29 in his class by the service as an inside offensive lineman.
After May 1, the spring transfer portal window closed, although players who were still in the portal could still sign with other universities.
