Terry Rozier is anticipated to be prepared for the Miami Heat training camp.
According to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, “it is anticipated and hoped that Rozier’s neck injury will heal and he will be ready for training camp at the start of October.”
Rozier, who is now 30 years old, was traded to the Charlotte Hornets in January, but the seasoned guard was unable to lead the Heat offense to new heights.
Rozier played in 31 Miami regular season games despite also suffering with a knee issue that kept him out of action for a while. After scoring 23.2 points per game in 30 games for the Hornets before the trade that moved Kyle Lowry to Charlotte, he only averaged 16.4 points per game for the Heat.
On April 7, Rozier participated in his last game of the 2023–24 NBA season. It was anticipated that his neck injury would only be mild, and he really made an effort to play through it.
However, despite some “cautious optimism” that he might be able to return, he did not play in Miami’s two play-in round games after missing the final four regular season games. Following that, he did not wear a uniform for any of the team’s five games during a 2024 NBA Playoffs first-round loss to the Boston Celtics.
It’s unclear if he could have made a comeback if the Heat had been able to go farther in the playoffs because at the time he was believed to be out week to week. Team president Pat Riley stated following the season that Rozier’s recovery is anticipated.
Riley stated earlier this month that the process is gradual and requires patience. “He reported feeling well. You won’t play about with your spine when dealing with one. It will recover. The doctors reassured him and us that it will heal and go gone in due course.
In addition, star Jimmy Butler was forced to miss the Heat’s matchup against the top-seeded Celtics due to a knee injury he sustained in a play-in round loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. Due to the franchise player’s limited availability, there has been talk of a potential trade away from Miami, which might become a source of conflict.
