LSU Football News: High Rated Top Defensive Tackle Confirm He Wants To Join LSU

Football at LSU: Tigers to Host Prestigious Defensive Tackle Transfer Jay’Viar Suggs Suggs plans to travel to Baton Rouge on Sunday and remain there for many days while he concentrates on coming to a conclusion.
As the program steps up its pursuit of one of the best available transfers in the portal, the LSU football staff will host an official visit with highly sought-after defensive lineman transfer Jay’Viar Suggs.

The Tigers extended an offer to the Grand Valley State star on Wednesday, with defensive line coach Bo Davis and associates making the decision.

He will now travel to Baton Rouge for a formal visit.

Suggs is scheduled to travel to Death Valley on Sunday and remain there for many days in order to finalize his selection among multiple elite schools.

Ever since he signed with the NCAA Transfer Portal last month, Suggs has drawn a lot of attention. The highly sought-after defensive tackle has made multiple visits, most recently to USC, Michigan, and Florida State.

Suggs unveiled his list of the Top 6 universities this week, and they are USC, Wisconsin, Michigan, Florida State, Arkansas, and Kentucky.

He has since updated his list of finalists, adding LSU to the list along with Wisconsin, Michigan, and Kentucky.

LSU has made a significant entry after making an offer. Though it’s evident that the purple and gold are joining the action late, Suggs and LSU head coach Brian Kelly have some connections.

What’s the deal with Suggs and the Tigers at LSU?

Kelly was the head coach at Grand Valley State for a number of years, leading the team to two Division II National Championships. Another intriguing fact is that Kenzel, Kelly’s youngest son, spent the 2023 season coaching alongside Suggs at Grand Valley State.

Both sides have ties, so LSU will undoubtedly keep trying to bring the highly sought-after defensive tackle to campus before making a choice, but the Tigers will need to make up a lot of distance after Suggs revealed his Top 6 colleges on Tuesday.

After five years at Grand Valley State, the Michigan native will have two seasons of eligibility left at his next stop. In his first season on the show, Suggs served as a redshirt year; the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 forced the cancellation of the program’s second season.

In 2022, with his program, the 6-foot-3, 282-pound player recorded 21 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 5 pass breakups, and 1 forced fumble.

Suggs continued to be reliable in the 2023 season after recording 21 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 4 pass breakups, and a forced fumble.

Suggs is prepared to step it up at a Power Four school after being a reliable contributor at the Division II level. Numerous prestigious programs have expressed interest, with LSU being the most recent to do so.

LSU is also keeping an eye on the following target: Brandon Lane, a Stephen F. Austin film

After resuming his recruitment process, Brandon Lane, a defensive tackle for Stephen F. Austin, has apparently been in contact with Brian Kelly and Co. LSU’s interest was initially reported by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports.

After recently renouncing his pledge to Michigan State, defensive tackle Lane is again on the market and has been contacted by numerous institutions.

It’s obvious that LSU needs reinforcements up front, and Lane has developed into another viable option for the Big Board.

Lane, who is starting to step up his recruiting once more, finished 2023 with 44 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks while playing for Stephen F. Austin.

Several Power Four programs have been in his ear during the recruiting process in addition to LSU.
