The Saints sign defensive tackle Kendal Vickers and interior offensive lineman Lucas Patrick.
METAIRIE, Louisiana – Both defensive tackle Kendal Vickers and offensive lineman Lucas Patrick have agreed to one-year contracts with the New Orleans Saints.
General manager of the Saints Mickey Loomis confirmed the roster changes on Monday. He also stated that nose tackle John Penisini has been cut by the team.
Seven-year NFL veteran Patrick, who stands six feet three and weighs 313 pounds, played for Chicago for the last two seasons.
After signing as an undrafted free agent out of Duke in 2016, he started his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers. He has already played in 96 regular-season games for both Green Bay and Chicago, starting 54 games at guard and center. In addition, he has made three starts at right guard in Green Bay’s five postseason games.
Patrick started 15 of the 16 games he played in center for the Bears last season, who finished second in the NFL in rushing yards per game with 141.
In 2018, the 6-3, 295-pound Vickers, a free agent out of Tennessee, signed a contract with Pittsburgh to start his NFL career. Last season, he was a player for the Buffalo Bills.
He took part in the rookie minicamp in New Orleans last weekend as a tryout participant.
He has made 22 tackles, including two sacks, in 26 career NFL games for the Buffalo Bills and Las Vegas Raiders, where he has started two of them. In 2019, he was a player with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.
He made two tackles in two games for the Bills during the previous season. He also played on Buffalo’s and the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squads for stretches of the season.
