Jackson Powers-Johnson, an offensive lineman selected in the second round by the Las Vegas Raiders out of the University of Oregon, has been signed.
Johnson was chosen by the Raiders with the 44th overall choice in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he could start right away on the offensive line, most likely at guard. This is hardly surprising considering that Johnson was among the top offensive linemen in college football last season, if not the greatest.
Johnson was a unanimous First-Team All-American the previous season. He didn’t allow a single sack in any of his three seasons at Oregon; he didn’t even allow any in 2023. The Ducks’ offensive line gave up the fewest sacks in FBS during the 2023 season, allowing just five.
Johnson began his career at center for Oregon and went on to become the first player in the Pacific-12 to earn the Rimington Award, which is presented to the top center in college football. Pro Football Focus gave him the best pass-blocking grade of any center in the country in 2023—90.6%.
The Raiders made several moves to guarantee they were dominating in the trenches this summer, indicating that strengthening the offensive line was a top priority. Along with signing experienced tackle Andrus Peat and guard Cody Whitehair in free agency, the team also selected tackle DJ Glaze of Maryland with a third-round pick.
The Raiders, led by head coach Antonio Pierce, aspire to be a powerful team, and they can’t be without strong linebackers. In that sense, Jackson Powers-Johnson will undoubtedly be helpful, and he ought to be able to jump in and start having an effect right away.
Andre James is guaranteed to start at center since he recently signed an extension. Johnson most likely fills in between tackle Thayer Munford Jr. and him at right guard, where he played last season. The Raiders are set up to be very strong up front with Dylan Parham returning at left guard and Kolton Miller firmly established at left tackle.
According to Jackson Powers-Johnson, the Raiders are the ideal fit for his approach.
By wearing silver and black, Johnson not only fulfills a necessity for the Raiders but also fulfills a dream. The rookie tackle for the Raiders mentioned that he saw his first NFL game at a Raiders game, and he believes his style of play is a perfect fit for the team.
