Re-signed wide receiver Phillip Dorsett is coming back to Denver for the Broncos. The veteran wide receiver is re-signing with the Broncos after playing much of the 2023 season on the practice squad, according to Mike Klis of 9News in Denver.
Despite becoming a bust while with the Colts, the former first-round choice has remained in the NFL for nearly ten years. In 2016, he had his greatest season yet, surpassing 500 receiving yards in the Indianapolis 500. Throughout his three seasons in New England, he also didn’t appear helpless; in 2019, for example, he finished with 397 receiving yards and five touchdowns (he also scored two touchdowns during the Patriots’ 2018 Super Bowl run).
The wide receiver has been all over the NFL since he became a free agent in 2020. He has played for the Seahawks (twice), Jaguars, Texans, Raiders, and Broncos. While he only appeared in two games for Denver last season, he played in 15 games for Houston as recently as 2022.
The depth of the team’s receiving corps will undoubtedly change in 2024. Courtland Sutton is not with the team as he looks for a new contract, and Jerry Jeudy has already been shipped off (albeit the receiver has not asked to be traded). The team did add Josh Reynolds, a free agent, and Troy Franklin in the fourth round to its core of holdovers, which also includes Tim Patrick and Marvin Mims Jr. Dorsett might return to his familiar practice squad role, but he’ll probably be fighting for one of the final places on the depth chart.
Additionally, the Broncos waived undrafted punter Nik Constantinou and undrafted receiver Lincoln Victor and signed undrafted cornerback Quinton Newsome. Over the past few years, Newsome has established himself as one of Nebraska’s top defenders. Upon graduating from college, the defensive back recorded 147 tackles, 17 passes defended, and one interception. Not to mention, he was an excellent special teams player, which may have hinted to his future in Denver.
