SO SAD: bad news for Orlondo Steinauer Hamilton Tiger-Cats coach announce today… see more

For the first time since 2018, someone other than Orlondo Steinauer will man the sidelines for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Tim Hortons Field.

The club revealed a new football operations structure on Tuesday, with Steinauer stating that he will focus on his duties as president of football operations while a new head coach is selected later this week.

The team also announced that Ed Hervey has been chosen as the as the general manager of the club. He joins the team in 2021, following spells as GM at Edmonton and British Columbia.

When questioned about who is being considered for the team’s head coaching position, Steinauer and Hervey both declined to comment.

Scott Milanovich, a senior assistant coach who took over offensive play-calling duties when the Ticats fired Tommy Condell as offensive coordinator in August, is one potential contender.

June Jones, former Tiger-Cats head coach and offensive coordinator, has lately shown an interest in returning to the CFL.

Steinauer has been the team’s head coach for the previous five seasons, with a 39-29 record that includes two Grey Cup appearances in 2019 and 2021.

“Hamilton is a special place for me and my family and I’m extremely proud of the sustainable culture and foundation that we have established,” said Steinauer. “In my five years as head coach, we’ve been successful and done a lot. Now is the time for me to focus on my duties as President of Football Operations and assist the wonderful individuals who work here every day as we seek for championships.”

Steinauer was named the Canadian Football League’s Coach of the Year in 2019 after leading the Cats to a franchise record 15 wins and a perfect 9-0 home record, both of which were franchise firsts.
