Official LSU News: Just In LSU Tigers Confirm The Signing Of Another Experienced Man

NEW: Seimone Augustus will be adding to LSU’s personnel
The famous person is going back to her hometown to serve as an assistant coach at her alma institution.

Legendary LSU women’s basketball player Seimone Augustus has joined the staff as an assistant coach, according to LSU head coach Kim Mulkey.

“Bringing Seimone Augustus back to join our staff is an exciting day for the LSU Women’s Basketball program,” Mulkey remarked. “Seimone was the best player in the country while he was a player at LSU, and he helped alter the program.

She made LSU well-known around the country. With her extensive experience and success at every level of the game—from high school in Baton Rouge to college, the WNBA, and the Olympics—she will be a fantastic asset to our team. Her knowledge of the game will help our squad and provide our players a chance to learn from a Hall of Famer who has always played with wonderful grace.

On April 30, 2002, former LSU baseball coach Skip Bertman, who was also the team’s top recruit at the time, referred to Augustus as “the single most important recruit in the history of LSU Athletics.”

Bertman was right; during Augustus’ playing career, which spanned from 2002 to 2006, she developed into one of the greatest athletes in LSU history and contributed to the program’s rise to prominence on the national stage. In 2004, 2005, and 2006, Augustus guided the Tigers to their first three Final Four visits. After that, he became a global celebrity and WNBA player.

The Baton Rouge native was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame recently and is scheduled to be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame within the next six months. She was the first former female student-athlete at LSU to receive a statue in her honor in 2023.

Augustus spent one season as the Sparks’ assistant coach after concluding her WNBA career in Los Angeles. Augustus joins the LSU staff to cover for Johnny Derrick, a longtime confidant of Mulkey, who announced his retirement following the conclusion of the 2017 season.

Augustus once remarked, “Life always leads you to where you belong.” So my journey has brought me home. offering me the chance to advance in my coaching career inside a program that I adore. Since experience is the best teacher, I am really thrilled about the knowledge and insight I will get from working with the legendary Coach Mulkey and getting back in touch with Coach Bob Starkey, who was my old coach. Once again, I’m a Fighting Tiger, and I’m excited to invest in this new generation of Lady Tigers. A tiger is a tiger forever. A brand-new chapter starts. I’ll see you at PMAC.
