Breaking: Duke Blue Devils Confirmed The Departure Of Another Top Experienced Star

defensive tackle for Duke Buffalo Bills selected DeWayne Carter with the 95th overall pick in the NFL draft.

It’s Mr. Duke heading to Buffalo.

On Friday night, the Blue Devils’ three-time captain was selected with the 95th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. After offensive lineman Graham Barton was chosen 26th on Thursday night, defensive tackle DeWayne Carter became the second Duke athlete to enter this year’s draft. Additionally, he is the first Blue Devil chosen in the current century’s second or third round. Quarterback Anthony Dilweg was the last Duke player selected in the third round, back in 1989.

Under former head coach Mike Elko, Carter led a defensive unit that improved over the final two years to rank among the best in the ACC during his five highly productive years in Durham. The product of Pickerington, Ohio, was also selected to the All-ACC team four times, with the final two seasons seeing him on the first team. The defensive tackle was also exceptional off the field; in 2023, he won the ACC’s Jim Tatum Award, which is presented as the best student-athlete in the league, and was named an NFF National Scholar-Athlete.

Following a stellar college career and a standout performance at the Reese’s Senior Bowl, Carter was given another chance to showcase his athleticism at the NFL combine, where the former Blue Devil excelled. Carter had a strong 7.67 relative athletic score, which included a quick 40-yard sprint time of 4.99 seconds.

The former captain, selected by the Bills in the third round, will start his professional career with a four-year deal, hoping to push for a starting position in training camp.
