**New York Yankees Acquire Reliever Jake Cousins from Chicago White Sox**
The New York Yankees have bolstered their pitching staff by acquiring reliever Jake Cousins from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for cash considerations. This move comes as the Yankees look to add depth following the injury to their ace, Gerrit Cole, who was placed on the 60-day injured list.
The Yankees have had an impressive start to the 2024 season, highlighted by a four-game sweep of the Houston Astros on the road. Despite their strong performance, concerns about their pitching staff’s depth have emerged due to Cole’s injury. To address this, the Yankees’ front office decided to enhance their bullpen options.
Jake Cousins, a right-handed pitcher, has experience in the MLB over the past three seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers. His most notable season was in 2021, where he appeared in 30 games and posted an impressive 2.70 ERA. However, his career faced setbacks in 2022 when he was placed on the 60-day injured list due to a UCL injury. Instead of undergoing Tommy John surgery, Cousins opted for platelet-rich plasma injections, allowing him to return later that season.
In the following seasons, Cousins’ appearances were limited, as he pitched in just 21 games over two years, spending most of his time with the Brewers’ Triple-A affiliate. After being placed on waivers in 2023, he was claimed by the Houston Astros and later joined the White Sox organization before being traded to the Yankees.
While Cousins may not immediately impact the Yankees’ bullpen, his addition provides valuable depth. Given the uncertainties surrounding the pitching staff due to injuries, Cousins could become a key asset if further issues arise. This strategic move aims to ensure the Yankees have the necessary resources to maintain their strong start and contend throughout the season.
