Latest Vols News: Just In Tennessee Volunteers Confirm The Departure Of Another Top Experienced Star

Miami signs a former defensive lineman for Tennessee football.
Tyler Baron, a former defensive lineman for Tennessee football, is back in action. It surprised several people when Baron left the Tennessee football program in December. Though he had other ideas, it was anticipated that he and James Pearce Jr. would be the Vols’ edge rushers in 2024.

Since December, the former Vol has made headlines for transferring to three different universities; the University of Miami was his most recent destination. He officially transferred to Louisville for the spring after committing to Ole Miss out of Tennessee before to Miami.

Louisville appeared to be merely a stopgap for Baron to conduct spring training, since Baron returned through the portal following the conclusion of the Cardinals’ spring campaign and chose to remain in the ACC by signing with Miami.

Eight Vols, including Baron, left the program in December, and one more is leaving this spring. In response, Josh Heupel added eight transfers to replace the departing players, strengthening the front seven and defensive secondary.

Baron attended Rocky Top for the previous four seasons before transferring to Miami, making it his fourth school in six months. Wesley Walker and Tamarion McDonald, two former Tennessee defensive backs, joined Baron at Louisville for the spring, but Walker has moved on and committed to Michigan.

According to 247 Sports’ Transfer Portal rankings, Baron is ranked No. 10 EDGE rusher and No. 72 overall player. Baron recorded 101 tackles, 27.0 tackles for loss, and 12.5 sacks in 46 games during his tenure at Tennessee. He will now play for Mario Cristobal’s team in Miami for his fifth qualifying season.

After finishing 7-6 the previous season, Miami, which is starting year three of the Cristobal era, will aim to have consecutive winning seasons. Against a well-known opponent, Baron and the Hurricanes will kick off the 2024 season in Week One against Florida.
