The Raiders have been identified as an ideal fit for acquiring another former Dolphins defensive starter. Despite already signing one Dolphins defensive lineman and having a strong defensive presence with Maxx Crosby and Christian Wilkins, it’s suggested that the Raiders should still focus on enhancing their defensive line rather than other positions, such as the secondary.
According to ESPN’s latest NFL analysis, titled “Best NFL team fits for remaining free agents, trade candidates,” the Raiders are seen as a prime destination for Emmanuel Ogbah, another Dolphins defensive lineman. ESPN evaluated several notable free agents and assigned them to teams in a Madden-style draft, yet did not allocate any of the top cornerbacks—Stephon Gilmore, Xavien Howard, or Steven Nelson—to the Raiders.
In their analysis, ESPN points out that although the Raiders have two effective edge defenders in Maxx Crosby and Malcolm Koonce, adding a rotational pass-rusher like Ogbah would be beneficial. Ogbah, who recorded five sacks for Miami last season and has amassed 42 sacks over his eight-season career, could provide valuable depth in a division where facing quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes is routine.
While the Raiders’ defensive line is strong, their edge depth is a concern, especially given Tyree Wilson’s modest rookie year performance with 3.5 sacks and no starts. Ogbah’s familiarity with Wilkins could be advantageous for the team. However, there is also a strong argument for the Raiders to address their secondary needs, as top free agents like Gilmore remain available.
