This summer, the Buffalo Bills severed connections with a number of senior players in order to free up salary contract space and choose young prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. Micah Hyde, a vital player from the 2023 Bills, is still a free agent.
The 11-year safety says he would like to play for the Bills one more time after spending the previous seven seasons in Buffalo.
At his charity baseball game on Sunday, Hyde stated, “I just want to be healthy,” according to WIVB 4. “I’m having fun spending time with my family. I would also love to return to the football field if the opportunity arises. Particularly in this outfit, in front of these supporters. Being able to accomplish that would mean the world to my family and me. Still, it’s quite a while off. Over the past two weeks, my neck has hurt when I woke up a few occasions.”
After a season in which he played 14 games and helped Buffalo overcome a poor start to the season to go to the AFC Divisional Round, Hyde, 33, hit the free agent market. Hyde took part in 92% of the defensive snaps for head coach Sean McDermott’s team during the games he participated in. His team finished fourth in scoring in 2023 with 54 tackles and two interceptions.
Jordan Poyer, a fellow safety and longtime teammate, will not be there for Hyde if he goes back to Buffalo. To raise money for Hyde’s Imagine for Youth Foundation, Poyer, who signed with the Miami Dolphins after being released by the Bills in March, linked up with Hyde on the field one more time on Sunday. More than $625,000 was raised by the charity softball event.
Josh Allen, Mitchell Trubisky, Dion Dawkins, A.J. Epenesa, Terrel Bernard, and Damar Hamlin were among the other Bills players present.
When Hyde’s charity event came to a conclusion, his old teammates surrounded him. Allen made one last pitch and took the microphone, leading a chant of “One more year” for Hyde to return to Buffalo.
The audience began to shout, “We’ll have the softball game one more time,” to which Hyde replied.
