Good News: Just In Atlanta Braves Confirm To Sign Another Top Experienced Star

**Braves Sign Another Former Mets Utility Infielder**

The Atlanta Braves seem eager to acquire former New York Mets infielders. Their latest signing is Joey Wendle, who was signed to a major league contract on Friday.

Wendle had joined the Mets during the offseason on a one-year, $2 million deal but struggled, leading to his designation for assignment last week. After no team claimed him off waivers, the Mets released him on Monday.

In addition to signing Wendle, the Braves announced that left-handed reliever Ray Kerr was recalled from Triple-A. Infielder Luke Williams was optioned to the minors, and right-hander AJ Smith-Shawver was placed on the injured list with a strained left oblique.

At 34, Wendle is the third former Mets utility infielder the Braves have signed this year. They previously signed Luis Guillorme, who was later traded to the Los Angeles Angels, and acquired Zack Short from the Boston Red Sox.

The Braves have used various backup infielders, including Williams, due to injuries and underperformance. Second baseman Ozzie Albies and third baseman Austin Riley have both missed games due to injuries.

When the team is healthy, the Braves’ backup infielders will see limited playing time. Wendle, a seasoned veteran, is expected to adapt better to this role than previous options. However, Wendle struggled with the Mets, making only 37 plate appearances in 18 games and performing poorly both offensively (.222/.243/.250) and defensively.

The Mets quickly moved on from Wendle, and the Braves can do the same if he doesn’t perform well. Atlanta only owes him the prorated league minimum while he’s on the roster, making this a low-cost move that could strengthen the team if Wendle rebounds.
