Breaking: Denver Broncos Projected To Cut Another Top Experienced Star Due New Wages Demands

Courtland Sutton Seeking $15M-$16M Per Year, Reportedly

Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton has been absent from the team’s offseason program as he negotiates for a revised contract.

According to OverTheCap.com, Sutton is set to earn a base salary of $13 million this season, with $2 million guaranteed. Next year, his base salary will rise to $13.5 million, but none of it will be guaranteed.

With two years remaining on his contract, the 28-year-old receiver is looking for a salary increase.

“He’d like to see that get up, maybe in that $15-$16 million range,” reported ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler earlier this month (cited by Predominantly Orange). “We’ll see if they can find a sweet spot.”

The Broncos faced a $53 million “dead money” cap hit when they released quarterback Russell Wilson in March, making them cautious about giving Sutton a raise. Denver currently has about $8.7 million in cap space, with major contract extensions for guard Quinn Meinerz and cornerback Pat Surtain on the horizon.

So far, Sutton has only missed voluntary workouts and light practices, and the team has minimized the significance of his absence. However, if he skips the mandatory minicamp scheduled for June 11-13, Sutton could be fined up to $101,716.

Ultimately, either the Broncos will agree to modify his contract, or Sutton will return to practice. The second week of organized team activities begins later today.
