Rams Sign Jared Verse to Rookie Contract
The Los Angeles Rams have officially signed rookie defensive lineman Jared Verse to his rookie-scale contract, completing the signing of their 2024 NFL Draft class.
As a first-round pick, Verse’s contract includes a guaranteed four-year term with an optional fifth year that the Rams can exercise. He also received a signing bonus as part of the agreement.
Recently, the Rams also signed safety Kamren Kinchens and defensive lineman Brennan Jackson, their third and fifth-round picks, respectively.
Verse was available to the Rams on the first day of the draft after an unexpected streak of 14 offensive players were selected first. He was the fourth defensive player chosen, following Laiatu Latu, Byron Murphy II, and Dallas Turner, who were picked by the Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks, and Minnesota Vikings, respectively.
Initially, there were reports that the Rams were attempting to trade into the top-10 to select an offensive player. However, they remained at their position and selected Verse, addressing a significant need on their defensive line. Heading into the draft, edge rusher was a crucial need for Los Angeles, and Verse, known for his size, power, and speed, is considered one of the top prospects in this draft class.
Following Aaron Donald’s retirement about a month before the draft, the Rams prioritized strengthening their defensive front, which led them to trade up in the second round to select Braden Fiske, Verse’s teammate from Florida State. Verse and Fiske are now expected to be key components of the Rams’ pass rush, alongside Byron Young and Kobie Turner.
With all their draft picks now signed, the Rams can fully focus on preparing for the 2024 season. Despite their youthful roster, the Rams are still seen as playoff contenders due to their experienced talent and coaching staff.
Verse is anticipated to be a pivotal player for the Rams both in the immediate future and long term. Observing which members of this draft class rise to the occasion alongside him will be interesting.
