4-Star RB Takes Shot at Oklahoma After Committing to Texas Football
Four-star running back James Simon has committed to the Texas Longhorns, making waves ahead of the intense Red River Rivalry. Simon, the second running back from the 2025 class to commit to Texas, is the 10th overall commit for the Longhorns this cycle. Currently, Texas’s 2025 recruiting class is ranked 13th nationally, consisting of seven four-star recruits and three three-stars, with no five-star recruits yet.
“BREAKING: Four-Star RB James Simon has Committed to Texas,” tweeted Hayes Fawcett. “The 6’0, 197-pound RB from Shreveport, LA chose the Longhorns over LSU and Notre Dame.”
Simon, excited for the rivalry against Oklahoma, made a bold statement with his commitment: “SEC takeover sucks to be a Sooner HOOK EM.” This jab comes as both Texas and Oklahoma prepare to join the SEC in the upcoming season, amidst significant conference realignment that will see major changes across college football.
Ranked as the #200 player in the 2025 class, the #13 RB, and the #4 player in Louisiana by 247 Sports, Simon attends Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport. He received offers from numerous prestigious programs before choosing Texas.
A Significant Year Ahead for Texas in the SEC
Texas football faces a pivotal year as they transition to the SEC. Coming off a strong season where they won the Big 12 and competed in the College Football Playoff, the Longhorns aim to prove their mettle in the more competitive SEC. This season is particularly critical given the team’s high level of returning talent.
The move to the SEC brings a tougher schedule compared to their last year in the Big 12. The Longhorns will face formidable opponents within their new conference and a significant non-conference challenge against defending national champions, Michigan, in week two.
While the road ahead in the SEC will be more challenging, the Longhorns possess the talent to compete at the highest level. This season will be a crucial test of their capabilities and their future in the SEC.
