The Denver Broncos Sign 4th-Round Pick, Completing 2024 Draft Class**
The Denver Broncos, whose receiving corps ranked 26th in receptions and 24th in receiving yards last season, but 11th in receiving touchdowns, have signed their fourth-round draft pick, finalizing their 2024 draft class.
Last season’s top three wide receivers were Courtland Sutton (59 receptions for 772 yards and ten touchdowns), Jerry Jeudy (54 receptions for 758 yards and two touchdowns), and Marvin Mims (22 receptions for 377 yards and one touchdown). The Broncos will have Sutton and Mims back, but Jerry Jeudy was traded to the Browns. Tim Patrick, who missed the last two seasons due to injury, is also returning.
The Broncos improved their receiving corps by signing Josh Reynolds and drafting Troy Franklin, who played with Bo Nix at Oregon. Selected 102nd overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, Franklin was the last Broncos draft pick to sign a rookie contract. According to Mike Klis of KUSA-TV, Franklin’s four-year contract is worth $4.875 million, including an $854,836 signing bonus.
Franklin committed to Oregon as a four-star recruit in 2021 and improved each year, finishing with 160 receptions for 2,483 yards and 25 touchdowns. In 2023, he started all 13 games, recording 81 receptions for 1,383 yards and 14 touchdowns, earning spots on the All-Pac-12 First Team and AP All-American Second Team.
NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein described Franklin as a tall, linear receiver with good speed but lacking the strength for combat catches. He excels at avoiding traffic and maintaining distance from defenders after the catch. While he may not be a primary target, Franklin is expected to be productive with a high yards-per-catch average and could be a valuable complementary piece or vertical threat.
The question remains whether Troy Franklin will start in 2024.
