Good News: Just In Houston Texans Confirm Contract Extension Of Another Top Experienced Star

Texans News: Blake Fisher Signs Rookie Contract**

The Houston Texans have officially signed their second-round draft pick, offensive tackle Blake Fisher. Fisher, a standout from Notre Dame, was chosen with the 59th overall pick in last month’s NFL Draft. He is expected to provide depth at either left or right tackle behind starters Laremy Tunsil and Tytus Howard, and might also serve as a versatile player for other positions on the offensive line.

NFL reporter Aaron Wilson first broke the news, noting that Fisher’s contract is a four-year deal worth $6.595 million. Although the Texans have not yet made an official announcement, Wilson’s report details the financial terms.

This year, the Texans did not have a first-round pick after holding the second and third picks in the 2023 draft. Their first pick this year was Georgia defensive back Karmari Lassiter at No. 42 in the second round, followed by Fisher.

Fisher was a notable choice from a strong offensive linemen draft class. He and his Notre Dame teammate Joe Alt were considered one of the best tackle pairs in college football last season.

Alt was selected fifth overall by the Chargers, while Fisher was picked 54 spots later by the Texans. Fisher had started at right tackle for Notre Dame in the past two seasons but began his career as the first true freshman to start a season opener at left tackle in Notre Dame’s history.

Additionally, Fisher reunites with former Notre Dame teammate, Texans OL Jarrett Patterson. A fun fact shared by the Texans’ media relations team is that both Fisher and Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud had family dogs named Oreo, highlighting an interesting personal connection.

Overall, the Texans drafted nine players this year—five on defense and four on offense—all of whom are now signed.

In other news, the Texans recently extended receiver Nico Collins’ contract for three years, valued at $24 million per season. Collins had a standout 2023 season with 80 receptions for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns, becoming only the fourth receiver in franchise history to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in a season, joining the ranks of Andre Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins, and Brandin Cooks. Collins was originally drafted by the Texans in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
