LSU Signs Kenyan Middle-Distance Runner Emedy Kiplimo Ruto**
BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU men’s track and field and cross-country programs have signed standout middle-distance runner Emedy Ruto, as announced by Head Coach Dennis Shaver on Saturday.
Hailing from Koibatek, Kenya, Ruto will join LSU with four years of cross-country eligibility, along with two years of outdoor and three years of indoor eligibility for the track and field team.
Ruto brings an impressive personal-best time of 3:36.91 in the 1500 meters, recorded last season in Nairobi, Kenya. This time surpasses the LSU record of 3:38.41 set by Passmore Furusa in 1995 and would have ranked him eighth nationally in the recent NCAA outdoor season.
Additionally, Ruto boasts personal-best times of 1:50.64 in the 800 meters (2021) and 8:07.58 in the 3000 meters (2023).
Ruto is the first official addition to the men’s distance team for the class of 2024, which currently includes eight signings for the women’s distance team.
