Official Tar Heels News: Just In Top Talented Star gets huge signing bonus as part of his NFL rookie contract

The former UNC football player signed his first NFL deal this week, and it brought in a sizable sum of money.
The former UNC football standout has reportedly officially signed a rookie contract with the New England Patriots, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

That contract includes a sizable signing bonus.

Maye has a four-year contract with completely guaranteed money at $36.6 million. A fifth-year team option for the 2028 campaign is also included in the agreement.

Maye received a signing bonus of $23.4 million out of the $36.6 million total.

For a team that is trying to rebuild, this deal is remarkably team-friendly. Maye will have a cap hit of $6,661,775 and a basic salary of $795,000 in 2024.
Thanks to Spotrac, Maye will receive the following amount as part of his base salary:

2024: $795,000.
2025: $960,000
$1,075,000 in 2026
$1,190,000 in 2027

The breakdown of the cap hit figures is as follows:

$6,661,775 in 2024
$8,327,219 in 2025
$9,992,663 in 2026
$11,658,107 in 2027

It was widely anticipated that Maye, who was selected third overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, would receive a large salary. When rebuilding teams have the chance to surround the player they believe will become the next face of the team with good players, these kinds of transactions make a ton of sense.
The former Tar Heel is now extremely wealthy, and he intends to use this contract as the first of many large ones he will receive in his NFL career.
