**Recruiting Expert Predicts Elite 2025 Edge Rusher to LSU Football**
LSU’s defensive recruiting might be gaining momentum!
Following a significant visit weekend for coach Brian Kelly and LSU football, the Tigers received promising news. Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports has predicted that four-star class of 2025 edge rusher Damien Shanklin will likely commit to LSU.
**Damien Shanklin Trending Towards LSU Football After Visit**
Damien Shanklin, rated as the No. 48 player nationally and No. 5 at his position by 247Sports, is attracting attention from top college football programs. LSU, led by coach Brian Kelly, has been a strong contender for Shanklin, and his recent visit seems to have bolstered their chances.
After visiting Baton Rouge from Indianapolis, Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports issued a prediction favoring LSU for Shanklin, indicating a successful visit.
Shanklin, standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 230 pounds, combines size, speed, and power, justifying his high ranking. His junior year stats at Warren Central High School include 66 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, three sacks, and one interception, showcasing his playmaking abilities.
While a 60 percent confidence prediction doesn’t guarantee his commitment, it suggests positive momentum in LSU’s defensive recruiting efforts.
Currently, LSU has three defensive commitments out of 11 for the class of 2025 (four-star linebacker Charles Ross, four-star cornerback Jaboree Antoine, and four-star linebacker Keylan Moses). This bodes well for the offense, but defense has been a concern for the past two seasons. Any positive recruitment news for defense is welcomed by defensive coordinator Blake Baker’s revamped staff.
Coach Brian Kelly and his staff are pursuing several top defenders for the class of 2025. Even landing a fraction of these targets could significantly boost LSU’s defensive future and further enhance the program’s success.
