**Texas Rangers Receive Jon Gray Update, Possible Return Before Next Series?**
Jon Gray is getting closer to making his return to the mound for the Texas Rangers this week.
As the Texas Rangers aim for the division title, they need to regain full strength, and the recent update on Gray is a positive sign.
Right-hander Jon Gray is set to face live hitters on Monday, marking one of the final steps before his comeback. Gray, who went on the 15-day injured list last week, wasn’t expected to be sidelined for long, making this a precautionary measure.
Gray, the Rangers’ top starter at the time of his injury, left a game with a groin strain after pitching five innings against the Phillies. Manager Bruce Bochy wasn’t too worried about the injury, anticipating a brief absence for Gray.
If Gray’s session goes well, he could return later this week. The Rangers will host the Detroit Tigers for a three-game series starting Monday. If Gray isn’t ready by then, he might be back for the series against the San Francisco Giants beginning Friday.
Gray had been performing well before his injury, with a 2.21 ERA over the first two months of the season, a 2-2 record, and 56 strikeouts.
Gray’s return would boost the Rangers’ rotation, which has been hampered by injuries, including top starter Nathan Eovaldi with a groin strain. Dane Dunning was cleared to pitch when Gray went on the IL, and Eovaldi returned last week, pitching three innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Max Scherzer is still recovering from back surgery and remains on the 60-day IL, having thrown before the game against the Marlins, but his return date is still uncertain.
Any pitching reinforcements are crucial as the Rangers move into June. The team has started the month well, with consecutive wins against the Marlins to end their recent series.
