Bruce Brown to the Warriors, Andrew Wiggins to the Raptors in a trade proposal.
An NBA analyst suggested that the Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors deal this offseason.
The following trade proposal was put forth by Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley for the Warriors and Raptors:
The deal: In exchange for Andrew Wiggins, the Toronto Raptors send Bruce Brown to the Golden State Warriors.
Throughout the course of the Warriors season, Wiggins averaged 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.6 steals, 0.6 blocks, and 45.3% shooting from the field, 35.8% from beyond the arc, and 75.1% from the free-throw line. Next season, the NBA champion will earn $26.3 million.
In the historic Pascal Siakam trade, Brown was acquired by the Raptors from the Indiana Pacers. In 67 games with the Pacers and Raptors this season, Brown averaged 10.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.3 blocks. He also shot 47.8% from the field, 32.3% from outside the arc, and 82.4% from the free-throw line.
For the upcoming season, Brown has a $23 million club option. The Toronto Star’s Doug Smith, an NBA insider, reports that the Raptors intend to move Brown this offseason.
The Raptors may attempt to trade him for a package of picks and/or prospects with an eye toward the future, but Buckley speculated that they might feel a rapid turnaround with the core of Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, and Immanuel Quickley. They can be attracted to someone they just want to stay with for a longer period of time than Brown.
“Toronto native Wiggins may be that player. Though he is slightly older than Toronto’s core group at 29, he has only been out of the top two spots on a world champion team for two seasons. Despite what his difficult 2023–24 campaign might imply, he may still have more golden years ahead of him.
“If Wiggins recovers, this trade could be a good value if the Warriors consider Brown’s contract expiration to be sufficient compensation.”
This year, the Warriors and Raptors did not make it to the playoffs.
With the Minnesota Timberwolves and Warriors, Wiggins has averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.7 blocks throughout his career. First overall in the 2014 NBA Draft, he was selected.
With the Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets, Denver Nuggets, Pacers, and Raptors, Brown has averaged 8.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.5 blocks throughout his career. He assisted Denver in defeating the Miami Heat to win the 2023 title.
