### Texas Lands Local 3-Star Center, Former Vanderbilt Signee Jamie Vinson
Texas secured its third high school commitment for the 2024 recruiting class on Monday, with 3-Star center Jamie Vinson from Oak Hill Academy.
According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Vinson, a three-star player from Austin’s Oak Hill Academy, committed to Texas basketball. Previously signed with Vanderbilt, Vinson chose Texas over Kentucky, South Carolina, Rutgers, Cal, Ole Miss, and Texas Tech.
### Texas Basketball Adds Former Vanderbilt 3-Star Commit Jamie Vinson
Head coach Rodney Terry and the Longhorns have strengthened their 2024 frontcourt with the addition of Jamie Vinson. Vinson joins four-star power forward Nic Codie from Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, TX. Additionally, Texas has signed five-star shooting guard Tre Johnson from Dallas’s Link Academy.
Vinson is the 12th scholarship player signed by Texas. With the NCAA basketball scholarship limit set at 13, Texas can still add one more player to their roster for their inaugural SEC season in 2024-25.
The 6-foot-11, 210-pound Vinson, originally committed to Vanderbilt last fall, was released from his LOI following the firing of head coach Jerry Stackhouse. After decommitting in mid-April, Vinson visited South Carolina and Kentucky. Texas entered the recruitment late, offering Vinson in mid-May, and he committed roughly three weeks later.
### Texas Gains Needed Frontcourt Depth and Potential with Vinson
Vinson adds significant length and athleticism to Texas’s frontcourt. He is versatile enough to play both the four and the five positions, showcasing fluidity, above-average ball-handling, and developing floor-spacing abilities. Vinson has shown potential as a floor spacer with an improving shooting stroke from mid-range and beyond the arc.
In the low post, Vinson uses his length and verticality to secure high-percentage shots close to the basket. He has a solid back-to-the-basket game and is effective at finishing lobs in both half-court and transition offenses.
Defensively, Vinson’s length helps him disrupt shots around the rim and makes him a strong rebounder on both ends of the court.
Vinson’s physical traits and two-way potential suggest he could exceed his current rankings if he reaches his full potential in college. He is ranked as the No. 239 prospect nationally in the 2024 class by the 247Sports Composite, No. 41 center, and No. 11 from Texas.
