Corey Seager Could Miss Multiple Games Due to Hamstring Tightness
**ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)** — Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager was absent from the lineup on Friday night, and the two-time World Series MVP might miss several games due to tightness in his left hamstring.
Seager exited Wednesday night’s game after feeling his hamstring on an RBI single. Manager Bruce Bochy mentioned that Seager did some light jogging before the series opener against San Francisco but wasn’t ready to return. “It looks like it’s going to be a couple of days, three days,” Bochy said.
There are no current plans to place Seager on the injured list. “We think he’ll be ready before the 10 days are up,” Bochy added.
Seager extended his on-base streak to a career-high 28 games with his hit during the second inning of the Rangers’ 9-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night. He noted afterward that he felt a twinge. Seager previously missed 31 games last season due to a left hamstring strain.
Josh Smith, primarily the third baseman since Josh Jung fractured his wrist early in the season, started as shortstop against the Giants, batting in Seager’s usual second spot. Seager has hit .271 with 13 home runs and 30 RBIs in 57 games.
Although Seager isn’t on the IL, the Rangers are recalling rookie infielder Davis Wendzel from Triple-A Round Rock. Outfielder Derek Hill has been designated for assignment to make room on the active roster.
Seager also missed nine games last season post-All-Star Game due to a sprained right thumb but returned in early August to help the Rangers win their first championship and was named World Series MVP. He finished second in the American League MVP voting to Shohei Ohtani.
Seager had surgery for a sports hernia in January, missing most of spring training. Despite a slow start, he has reached base in every game since May 4 and had a 16-game hitting streak before going 0 for 3 with a walk on Tuesday night.
