Jesse Chavez: A Braves Legend
Jesse Chavez’s career is one that die-hard Braves fans will always cherish. Despite playing for nine different MLB teams over his 16-year career, he is best known for his time with the Atlanta Braves.
Chavez has had four separate stints with Atlanta, becoming a fan favorite along the way. His performances in a Braves uniform have consistently outshined his stats with other teams. The difference is striking.
In 2021, Chavez recorded a 2.14 ERA in 30 appearances for Atlanta, just a year after posting an ERA around 7.00 with the Rangers. The following season, Chavez struggled with the Cubs but excelled after being traded to the Braves. Though he was traded to the Angels at the deadline and performed poorly, he returned to Atlanta and posted a 2.72 ERA, contrasting sharply with his performances for the Cubs and Angels.
In the most recent season, Chavez arguably delivered his best performance yet, achieving a 1.56 ERA in 36 innings. However, an injury in 2023 sidelined him for a significant period, leading to him signing a minor league deal with the White Sox this offseason.
Chavez may be with the White Sox for now, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see the 40-year-old make a final run with the Braves in 2024. It would be a fitting end to a career that Braves fans hold dear.
