4-Star DB Chuck McDonald Commits to Alabama
Chuck McDonald, a four-star defensive back from Mater Dei High School in California, has verbally committed to Alabama football. McDonald becomes part of the Crimson Tide’s 2025 recruiting class.
Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 190 pounds, McDonald meets Alabama’s criteria for tall, athletic defensive backs. He excels at breaking on the ball with impressive closing speed and shows strong tackling skills near the line of scrimmage due to his anticipation. Additionally, McDonald demonstrates excellent coverage abilities, effectively mirroring wide receiver routes and disrupting passes with his physicality.
BOL Staff Breaks Down Commitment of Elite 2025 CB Chuck McDonald
The Alabama Crimson Tide has secured a significant addition to its 2025 commitment list with the pledge of elite cornerback Chuck McDonald. BamaOnLine staff members Tim Watts, Andrew Bone, and Travis Reier discussed McDonald’s decision and what he brings to the team.
Coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff have added their second Top 100 recruit of the week. McDonald, ranked No. 9 cornerback per the On3 Industry Player Rankings, announced his commitment on Thursday, becoming Alabama’s 11th commit for the 2025 class.
McDonald, who visited Alabama officially last weekend, had planned visits to Georgia, Oregon, and USC but canceled them after deciding to commit to Alabama. He is also expected to return to Tuscaloosa this weekend for an unofficial visit.
McDonald explained his choice, citing the solid and genuine coaching staff and the positive feedback from former teammates Domani Jackson and Zabien Brown. “If you want to be the best, you go to ‘Bama,” McDonald said.
After his official visit, McDonald quickly decided on Alabama, informed the staff, and planned a return visit to help with recruiting efforts. He expressed excitement about joining Alabama, confident that the new staff will maintain the program’s high standards.
McDonald is Alabama’s second cornerback commit for 2025, joining Zymear Smith from Denton, Maryland. McDonald and Smith both visited Tuscaloosa last weekend. Another top cornerback target, Na’eem Offord, will visit Alabama this weekend.
McDonald is the second Mater Dei player to commit to Alabama in this cycle, joining linebacker Abdullah Sanders. Alabama is also pursuing Mater Dei teammate Jordon Davison, who visited last weekend. Current Alabama cornerbacks Domani Jackson and Zabien Brown also hail from Mater Dei, as does Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young.
Alabama is targeting several recruits from California in the 2025 class, with priority targets Dijon Lee, Josiah Sharma, and Kaleb Edwards scheduled to visit later this month.
