Hurston Waldrep Set to Make MLB Debut for Braves on Sunday
Hurston Waldrep will make his major league debut for the Atlanta Braves on Sunday against the Washington Nationals, as reported by MLB.com’s Mark Bowman.
Waldrep, a 2023 first-round pick, has rapidly advanced through the minor leagues. After being selected 24th overall, he participated in major league Spring Training but began the 2024 season at Double-A Mississippi.
Despite a slow start, Waldrep made nine starts with a 2.92 ERA and a 3.07 FIP over 49 1/3 innings. He was recently promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett, where he recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts and allowed three runs in six innings.
With Waldrep starting on Sunday, Max Fried’s next start will be pushed to Tuesday in Baltimore. Spencer Schwellenbach remains on the active roster and is slated to start Wednesday’s game against the Orioles. To add Waldrep to the 40-man roster, the Braves may move either Spencer Strider or Ronald Acuña Jr. to the 60-day injured list.
