Texas Football Faces Challenges in Recruitment of 5-Star WR

Texas football is facing potential setbacks with one of its top recruiting targets, five-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench. According to On3, Ffrench, who was initially leaning towards the Longhorns, has now opened up his options after a visit to LSU.

“I don’t have a leader,” Ffrench told Sports Illustrated. “LSU changed it, they made it competitive. But those one-two-three schools, everybody is in right now. It’s very back open right now.”

Ffrench, a standout from Jacksonville, Florida, is part of the 2025 recruiting class. In the 2023 season, he recorded 62 catches for 1,247 yards and 14 touchdowns, following a sophomore season with 671 receiving yards. He is considering several schools, including Texas, LSU, Miami, Tennessee, and Florida State. He plans to announce his college choice on August 30, as per Sports Illustrated.

Despite this news, Texas fans shouldn’t lose hope. The Longhorns remain in contention for Ffrench, who is scheduled to visit Texas from June 21-23. Ffrench is one of the top receivers in the 2025 class, ranked 23rd nationally in the On3 industry ranking.

Texas Football’s Transition to the SEC

The 2024 season marks a significant transition for Texas football as it moves to the SEC, joining Oklahoma in leaving the Big 12. The Longhorns are coming off a College Football Playoff appearance last year, where they lost to Washington in a national semi-final and won the Big 12 conference.

The SEC is widely considered the toughest conference in college football, dominated by Alabama and Georgia in recent years. However, with legendary coach Nick Saban retiring from Alabama, the landscape is changing. Texas continues to recruit top talent, which could ease their transition into the SEC.

Adding Ffrench to their roster would be a significant boost for Texas as they prepare for their first game of the 2024 season on August 31 against Colorado State. They also have a major non-conference game against Michigan before their first SEC game on September 28 against Mississippi State.
