According to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, linebacker Chris Braswell signed his first NFL contract on Wednesday.

On April 26, the Buccaneers selected Alabama’s Braswell with the 57th overall pick in the NFL Draft.

With that selection spot comes a deal worth roughly $6.785 million for four years.
Every player selected is given a four-year contract. The pick number, the NFL’s salary cap of $255.4 million for the 2024 season, and this year’s rookie compensation pool are the basis for the contract values. This methodology is outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the league and its players association.

With Braswell’s signature, linebacker Dallas Turner, who was taken by the Minnesota Vikings at No. 17 in the 2024 NFL Draft, is the only one of the ten Alabama players chosen to sign an initial deal. Among the 27 talents chosen in this year’s draft, Turner is the only one who attended Alabama high schools and colleges and is not currently under contract.

Tampa Bay released Shaquil Barrett this offseason, and now they want to strengthen their pass rush. With 19.5 sacks in 2019, Barrett led the NFL; however, he only managed 4.5 in 2023 before being let go in March due to a salary cap violation.

Braswell joined Randy Gregory, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, and Yaya Diaby on the outside linebacker depth chart. In 2023, as a rookie, Diaby led the Buccaneers in sacks with 7.5. Tryon-Shoyinka started 12 games last season and had five sacks. Gregory, a former second-round selection, is playing in his sixth NFL season with Tampa Bay.

In 2023, Braswell had eight sacks for Alabama.

After practice on Tuesday, Todd Bowles, the coach of Tampa Bay, stated, “We’ll see when the shoulder pads come on.” However, he has an extremely powerful lower body and is quite steady and tough. From a sheer strength perspective, he reminds me a lot of Yaya from last year. I like what I see so far, but we’ll see how it transfers when the pads arrive.
On the last day of the Bucs’ offseason training, Braswell signed a contract. By late next month, the team will reassemble after training camp.
